Printing questions

  • Water based ink is a decorative ink that literally soaks into the garment’s fibers. Because it’s becomes part of the fabric, it gets softer over time, is very breathable and wears with the garment. Other types of ink, such as Plastisol, sit on top of the fabric and produce a stretchy layer that’s susceptible to cracking, peeling, and sticking over time.

  • Yes! We use a process called Discharge Printing. We add a discharge agent to our inks that allows the ink colors to replace the colors in the fabric, leaving a nice vibrant print. Please be aware that for best results we recommend 100% Ringspun Cotton fabrics with discharge printing. Although we also print on blends, sometimes they can yield unpredictable results. If you are unsure about an item, just ask!

  • We use a 6 color manual press.

  • Right now we can print on most cotton and cotton blend items including shirts, sleeves, leggings, sweatpants, sweatshirts, baby rompers, bibs, tote bags, canvas patches, tea towels, etc.

  • Because water-based inks wear with the fabric, sometimes the shirt fibers move to the top with your design. This is more common with carded open-end cotton fabrics (COE) and can look like slight fading. You might notice this on your favorite vintage shirt as well, as time goes on there may be some wear, but your design will never wash out or fade completely.

  • Yes, we work with a local Maine embroiderer to offer embroidery on hats, jackets and a variety of other specialty items.

  • We are only able to print on fabric items in our Windham shop. Although we do offer custom-decorated drinkware, accessories, and promotional products these are not produced in our studio. We are transparent about where our products come from because it’s important to know what you’re buying and selling. We only offer products we are confident in and can get behind.

general questions

  • A screen printing setup is an additional cost to pay for the actual film and screen we use to screen print your design. Each color in a design needs its own screen. We only charge this cost once, even though we reclaim and reuse screens often.

Setup fees on promotional items are per order and cover the cost that our manufacturers charge us to set up the machine with your customization. Sometimes this cost is reduced on future orders but is different for each item.

  • Local screen printing orders can be picked up at our Windham, Maine studio at no charge. If you are out of state or not able to pick up your order, a shipping fee will be added to your invoice. We generally ship via UPS Ground with carbon offset shipping unless otherwise specified. Other orders, and ones containing promotional goods, ship directly from our partners and the shipping cost will be included on your invoice.

  • The best files are vector files with all of the fonts set to outlines. This is usually a PDF, EPS or AI file. We use Adobe CC and can open native files if necessary. We understand that not everyone works with these file types and will work with you to get what is needed, just send us what you do have.

  • Screen printing turnaround is generally 10 business days, we go through busy periods in the Spring and Fall when lead times may be extended but we will let you know if that is the case when you’re ready to place your order. Production times on other items fluctuate depending on the item and location.

  • We do! During most times of the year, we offer graphic design but because we are a small company, if we are very busy, we are sometimes not able to take on additional design projects and will recommend a local designer to get in touch with. All screen printing orders include 30 minutes of file prep and most design tweaks can be worked into that time.
